Speaking with Dominica Vibes on Thursday 22 February 2018, incoming chairman of the Eggleston/Giraudel Village Council Randy Alexander said though it is no secret that there are a number of issues in the community, housing is now the priority. “We have a number of houses in the village that are now covered with tarpaulin. So we need to assist those people in whatever way we can and the government is fully on board with us,” Alexander said. He acknowledged the fact that there are persons in the community who have insurance but many were underinsured and so people too will benefit from this program. Many elderly and pensioners in the community he added are either now homeless or have tarpaulins and had no insurance. “So that is very important now for us to put things in place for us to really get these houses for these people,” he said. The team will begin collecting the information on Sunday 24 February 2018. “We are encouraging people that they should prepare invoices and turn it into the council,” Alexander said. Meanwhile, Labour Party Caretaker for the Roseau South Constituency Jahisiah Benoit encouraged the council to continue being proactive as they undertake this mission. “I’ll there with them to see how we can make the process happen in a very timely way that people are very much in need of assistance. The government has done everything in its power to make materials available. We have a responsibility to make sure that people get the assistance that is available to them,” said Benoit.
