The divisioncurrently offers two pathways: one in Education and another inSocial Science and Criminal Justice. The latter contains a SocialSciences program where students can focus their interests within aspecific social sciences discipline. Our division’s courses areresponsible for measuring General Education objectives in globalcompetency and critical thinking, among others. Our faculty seeksto provide a challenging curriculum that fosters disciplinary andinterdisciplinary thinking in ways that meet our students wherethey are and build confidence and ability. As a college withsignificant student diversity in ethnicity, age and personalexperience we require faculty to develop curriculum that isinclusive and that promotes critical thinking and empathy.The successful candidate will be responsible for teachingcourses and creating active learning opportunities for ourundergraduate students. In this pandemic and post-pandemicenvironment, the faculty member is expected to be familiar with thelatest technologies to effectively teach online and to be familiarwith online electronic resources in order to provide students withinexpensive course materials (OER). The faculty member will berequired to participate in college and/or community service, andwill also be tasked with exploring the integration of high-impactpractices into the economics curriculum, in collaboration with theHCC Division of Academic Engagement. Daytime, evening and weekendcourses are taught at HCC across all platforms: face-to-face,online and hybrid. We are looking for a colleague with the abilityto engage students and to instruct using a range of teachingmethods and pedagogies.General ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will teach 30 credit hours ofeconomics courses per year (fall and spring semesters) and providea minimum of five office hours for student interaction per weekduring fall and spring semesters.Other responsibilities include but are not limited to design,development and assessment of course and program content.All full-time faculty participate in college service, forexample by serving on departmental and college committees andsupporting initiatives that meet the division’s core work.All faculty make themselves available to advise students onprogram requirements.A full list of faculty responsibilities can be found at’s degree in the field of economics required.
